WILL 2017 MTV VMAS STAY HUMBLE?

POSTED JULY 27TH, 2017 | BY TONI POSTELL

2017 MTV Video Awards are coming up and the network just announced the nominations on Tuesday via Instagram. OF COURSE....Kendrick leads with the most nominations for his music video “Humble” off his album DAMN.  The director for “Humble” was Dave Meyers who is always known for symbolic and evocative visuals. His best work goes from Notorious B.I.G to Outkast. With Dave and Kendrick’s creativity, I know Kendrick is going to win his nominations.

Now the network decided to change some categories this year. First, former best female and male video categories are replaced with artist of the year/non-gendered category. Second, there is a new “best fight against the system” category to celebrate videos that inspire viewers to stand up against justice. I have a problem with this but I am not surprised with MTV. I went to look at the nominations in this category and not once did I see J.Cole ,Janelle Monae, or Chance the Rapper!

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 27 at 8:00PM ET/PT from The Forum in Inglewood, California.
