5 GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN MID-CITY LA

POSTED JULY 16TH, 2017 | BY TALIA DAVIS LIFESTYLE BLOGGER

Ok, lately it's been hotter than hades here in Los Angeles; I’m Texas- born, so admittedly living in Los Angeles for a few years has made me soft. Due to the heat I’ve decided to take a little break from my usual outdoor patio scene and seek refuge indoors where the air conditioning flows freely and keeps me from dripping sweat all over my delicious meals.

If you're someone who enjoys great food (seriously who doesn’t?!) you’re going to want to check out my little list of great local spots in the city. Without further ado, here it is in no particular order.

1.) Bao Dim Sum House

8256 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles CA, 90048

I woke up yesterday morning, rolled over and suggested to my beau that we go get dim sum sometime soon. His response was, let's go now, so that is exactly what we did. It was the best decision we could have made for food because it was BOMB to say the least! I give this place 5 stars all around. The food, ambiance and service were top-notch and they have a really affordable happy hour (which we missed) Monday- Friday 4-7 pm. I highly recommend the steamed bbq pork buns and the spicy shrimp dumplings.

2.) Mo’ Better Burger

901 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036

Yooo! I literally live up the street from this joint. It is easy to miss but thanks to the burger gods and my beau’s diligence in supporting local business, I did not.  Mo’ Better is located on La Brea in an unassuming little shopping center. The feel was so warm and welcoming and it smelled like a homemade burger if I ever did smell one. The menu is simple, the food is fresh and made to order pretty much right in front of you. The staff is very friendly and it is obvious that most of the people who walk through the door are loyal patrons, or soon-to-become so. I honestly believe that they have the best burger in LA. Their burgers are meaty and have the perfect charred texture/flavor, they’re well seasoned and you know they make them with love. Skip the In n Out and have yourself a Mo Better Burger, you won't regret it!

3) République

4.) Beer Belly

532 S Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90020

This is another local spot, of course. If you cant tell, I really like to support my hood, it’s an extremely important civic duty you know! Beer Belly caught my attention with their “Death by Duck’ dish. It’s a good dish, though the name would imply there’s more duck involved than there is in reality, the dish was still a solid appetizer as I waited for my duck quesadillas which were superb. I recommend this place for their trendy menu and great beer list! Makes sure to check out their amazing happy hour drafts.

5.) Kang Ho-Dong Baekjeong

3465 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90020

I was a Korean BBQ virgin not too long ago, but now i am addicted thanks to this Koreatown gem! First of all the staff is amazing as are their recommendations. The prime rib is so mouth watering you'll want to push your stomach to its limits, I know I did!  It is a great place to bring a group of friends or a group of strangers because it really helps to break the ice and gets people to interact (shared plates will do that). The place is decorated with really cool Korean pop culture posters which is a great contribution to ambiance.
