Days before the release of his new album, Bruno Mars announced his 24K Magic World Tour. On November 17, just in time for the weekend, Bruno Mars’ new album 24K Magic was released. Bruno Mars has had numerous hits over the past six years. Some of my favorites are “Just the Way You Are,” “When I Was Your Man,” and “Gorilla.” Bruno is very talented and I have been waiting for new music since he shut down the Super Bowl with Beyoncé earlier this year.

Overall, 24K Magic is a good album. Almost every song is good and my only complaint is the album length. Bruno Mars’ first album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010) contained 10 tracks and his second album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) also had 10 tracks. I was hoping that Bruno would surprise us and release an album with 15 to 20 tracks. However, his album is only 33 minutes and has nine tracks (he could of gave us one more!). But honestly, I prefer quality over quantity and I can truly say that I like seven tracks out of nine. I think that is a pretty good ratio considering the fact that some artists have 20 tracks on their albums, but only six good ones.

My favorite song on the entire album is Bruno’s most recent single “Versace on the Floor.” This song is so amazing! It is a four-minute-long seductive slow jam that makes you feel like you are listening to a 90’s RnB song. If I could compare this song to anything, it would be music from Boys II Men or New Edition. Bruno’s falsetto voice is on point and the lyrics are extremely romantic. I personally would have made this the first single instead of “24K Magic”, but I guess that wouldn’t have made as much sense.

Other songs I like on the album are “Too Good to Say Goodbye” and “Straight Up and Down.” The whole album is about love and romance, which is refreshing to listen to in comparison to some of the other music out right now. The song that stands out the most is “Perm”. One line of the song I fell in love with is, “Throw some perm on your attitude Girl you gotta relax.” This song is very upbeat and it has a great message. Bruno is basically calling for women to relax, get sexy and enjoy life. A lot of women walk around angry and uptight for no reason, so I think this song is a perfect reminder for women to be happy and not stress.

This album is perfect nostalgia for anyone who misses soulful music from the 80’s and 90’s.  Tracks like “Chunky” and “Finesse” will make you want to bust into the electric slide and I love it. I also like how Bruno Mars addresses sex in a very subtle way. Unlike songs that are out today that are very explicit, Bruno addresses sex with metaphors like a lot of artists did back in the day. Therefore, the album does not contain a parental advisory label and people of all ages can purchase it and enjoy it. In conclusion, I am looking forward to the 24K Magic tour! I for sure plan on purchasing tickets now that I have heard the entire album.
