Senator Kamala D. Harris (D-California) made headlines this week in Oakland, CA by announcing her support for Bernie Sander's single-payer health insurance bill, which will be unveiled in September.

"I'll break some news: I intend to co-sponsor the Medicare-for-all bill." Harris said, speaking to a group of supporters at a town hall meeting in Oakland, for which CSUITEMUSIC was present. "It's the right thing to do." The junior Senator added. The announcement was met with a resounding round of applause from attendees.

The Medicare-for-all bill is Senator Bernie Sanders' (D-Vermont) brain child that he will officially introduce in September. Kamala Harris is the first Democrat to publicly support the bill, which many progressives have been pushing for since President Obama introduced the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

Senator Sanders took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Harris for throwing her influence behind the bill:

As Attorney General of California, Kamala Harris was unwilling to publicly put her support any particular legislation for single-payer health insurance. While the move is welcomed by many progressives, it will be incredibly difficult to actually get passed with a Republican controlled Congress, and with Donald Trump in the White House.

The move can also be seen as Senator Harris' attempt to shore up support from the progressive wing of the Democrat Party should she seek the party's nomination for President of the United States in 2020.
