Our full conversation with Mayor Michael Tubbs of Stockton.

Michael D. Tubbs is the youngest mayor of a major U.S. city in the nation's history. He is also the first African-American mayor of his hometown of Stockton, CA.

Mayor Tubbs overcame the odds of poverty and growing up in a single-parent household to getting his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Stanford University and ultimately becoming mayor of his home city of Stockton, CA, which has been hard hit in recent years by crime and economic peril. His political career has been supported by powerhouses such as Oprah Winfrey and President Barack Obama.

Mayor Tubbs sat down with's Editor-In-Chief Michael J. Payton to discuss what it took for him to overcome his circumstances, what it's like to be a young leader, the importance of civic engagement, how he is reinventing his city and more.

Special thanks to Daniel Lopez, Mayor Michael Tubbs, and the City of Stockton, California.
