Name: Will Inspire

Age: 24

Location: Los Angeles, CA

What music artists inspire you?

I’m honestly inspired by SOO many artists! Some include, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, Kendrick, Jay-Z, Kirk Franklin, Chance, and Erykah Badu just to name a few! Every artist may not inspire me lyrically or musically, but definitely inspired by the way they’ve moved through the industry and created something MORE than just music.

How and why did you get started in music?

Honestly, never wanted to do music. I always wrote lyrics, but never considered being an ACTUAL artist. It wasn’t until I was in a studio session with one of the homies who asked me to hop on a 2nd verse of one of his tracks. It was all giggles until we posted it and actually received real feedback from it. From there, I was invited to a few other sessions and it all just began there. For years, I never really had a purpose of WHY I’m doing music other than to inspire others, but I now see it as a unique opportunity to unlock doors to other life goals that are on my list.

What do you want people to get out of your music?

If someone can get anything out of my music, it will be that you can do absolutely ANYTHING you put your mind to. There are way too many man-made rules and outdated gate keepers in the industry (music and business) and we sometimes forget that the only one who has the final say so is God. No matter what your background looks like, you can create ANY path you.

When will you know that you’ve made it?

I don’t think there will ever be a single moment where I say, “I made it." I know the cliché thing to say is “when I sign on that dotted line” or “when I buy my mama a house”, but in all honesty, that contract you signed can be ripped up and that house you bought can be repossessed. I no longer base my success off of things that have no real value. Instead, I believe as long as someone says they’ve had their life changed with anything involving something I did, I’ve done my job (and plan to change millions more lol).

How would you describe your sound?

Depends on the day lol. One day I might sound like Cole, one day like Pac, one day like Jay Z, and one day singing like Michael Jackson (don’t judge me, I think I can sing lol). Lately, I’ve been experimenting with my sound and not keeping it only in one box. There are so many ears out there and not all listeners’ rock with ONE sound.

What’s your process for writing a song? (For example, do you shoot free throws, go for a run, sit in the dark, etc.)

It happens in the most random places! I literally can be at the movie theatre, hear or see something from the movie and immediately take out my phone to start writing. The weirdest time I felt inspired was at a concert. It hit me out of nowhere and started writing in the middle of a huge crowd of people lol.

Do you consider yourself a lyricist, rapper, or MC? And how would you describe the difference between all 3?

A lyricist can make you think with clever word play...something like a Kendrick Lamar. A rapper could be like a 2014 and up Kanye West. Not too lyrical, but still can make a banger using relevant topics. An MC embodies it all. With all that said, I don’t know what I am lol. More so a lyricist, but a bit of a rapper too so I’d like to think of myself as an MC! (By the way, my description of this could be completely off lol).

If you could collaborate with any music artist, who would it be and why?

My perfect song would be Will Inspire featuring J. Cole on the 2nd verse, Kendrick on the 3rd, Lauryn Hill/Alicia Keys as the leading voice in the choir on the chorus with Kirk Franklin on the ad-libs. Produced by Timberland/Swizz Beats/Kanye West. Lol. Anything is POSSIBLE!
